Pattern
The scarf is worked lengthwise. To alter the length of the scarf, increase or decrease stitches. Work as many rows as you would like for the width you prefer.
CO 449 sts (or number needed for length desired. Must be an odd number).
Continue in Linen Stitch until you reach your desired width.
Bind off in Linen Stitch RS row and weave in ends.
Block if needed.
Fringe is 4 strands attached to scarf, twisted two by two and knotted again at the end to keep together.
Thanks for this pattern. I attend a stitch of the month club in Woodland Park, CO. The linen stitch was the stitch of February. I can now use it to create this scarf and practice this wonderful stitich.
ReplyDeleteHello from North Vancouver,BC
ReplyDeleteI too love your Linen Stitch Scarf.. In reading the Pattern you do tell us what Size of Needle but I din't notice as to the length of Cord would be adequate to hold the 449 stitches for this project..
If I am unable to purchase the exact Yarn here what other yarn do you think would be perfect for this gorgeous Linen Stitch Shawl.
Thanks so much, look forward to hearing from you.
Regards & Happy Knitting
Sandy
Since I won't be using the yarn you used, what weight do you suggest. I assume with no fuzz to the yarn. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThe yarn I used was sock. Any sock would produce some, thing this weight and look, however, this pattern can be made with any weight yarn, adjust the number of stitches for gauge. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteCan this be done going the other direction; i.e. casting on 39 stitches and working the same pattern? I (obviously maybe) don't knit much but love the way the linen stitch looks but want it the same on both sides. The other demonstrations I've seen show it coming out differently on the "wrong" side.

Absolutely! I chose to do it lengthwise because of how I wanted the striping to show. And the back looks nice too...different, but nice. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteIs it possible to do this on circular needles - to wind up with a very long scarf that's a circle? I'm reluctant to cast on a bazillion stitches only to find out it won't work! Thanks - and "I don't know" is a perfectly acceptable answer.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried it but I would think it would work out great. The first row would just end before the last K1 of the repeat. I'd have to test the second row to figure out exactly how it should start and end. Let me know if you do it and what works for you.
ReplyDeleteNice blog thankks for posting
